Description:
THIS ITEM HAS SOLD! 1965 ('S5') date code. 'Y'-tang, Magis-engraved 'special order' 2-bbl set both 28” extremely rare solid ribs. Set #1: marked F/M (.039”/.018”). Set #2 marked M/IC (.024”/.013”). 7lbs 11oz. 1-1/2” x 2-1/8” x 14-1/2” LOP to Browning recoil pad. Finishes are superb 98+%. Includes Browning 2-bbl luggage case. This gun will letter from Browning. It is a very scarce anomaly of same-length bbl sets on a 'field' gun. In addition, both solid ribs are also 'tapered' from 7mm to 4.5mm. Ned Schwing states, “Solid ribs were discontinued as a standard feature for the 'Superposed' in 1960 due to limited demand in favor of ventilated ribs.”

Engraving: This is one of 3 Magis-engraved examples I have encountered and studied that clearly illustrates her extraordinary talent and superior artistry in the pinnacle of her FN career. She retired from full-time employment at FN in 1965. I suspect this was to raise her son (born in 1964) who is also a Master engraver currently working in Belgium. As evidenced by a few known (to me) post-1965 late 60's 'Magis-signed' examples, she continued to engrave (mostly Midas Grades) as an independent contractor for FN while raising her son at home.

Midas examples of this artistic quality standard, vintage, and condition seldom appear for sale. The Art (and engraving) speaks for itself. If you have studied works by the 6 Masters, then you will recognize this as an increasingly scarce opportunity at a truly exceptional Browning 'collector' piece from one of the most desirable periods and 'true' FN Masters in Browning history. You will have also concluded that Midas Grades are not 'all', alike. Contrary to what is eroneously claimed about other engravers of the Funken/Vrancken era, 'Master' was bestowed to only 6 Funken-trained engravers - 5 males – Vrancken, A.Watrin, Dierckx (from Funken) - J.Baerten and Diet, (from Vrancken/Watrin) - and 1 female engraver (Fr. graveuse) – Magis (from Funken). The 'magic' of the true Masters is evident when you roll the game scenes in different lighting conditions and they just come to life. If it doesn't light a spark in your heart, then it's not 'magic'.

I will re-inspect the item and refund the sale price less my initial shipping and insurance costs plus $25 re-transfer fee, if item is in the same condition as sent. International shipments considered - additional stipulations apply (i.e., wire transfer only - no returns - no refunds, etc.).

As a buyer myself, I understand how important the inspection/verification process is to confirm an item's listed valuation or  establish your own. Feel free to ask questions and request photos of specific views via e-mail feature below. I understand how certain items appear unexpectedly and tend to derail your current long-term 'plan'. So, I am not opposed to granting a reasonable time for refusals (in order received) until you can commit to purchase (pending inspection) and make payment arrangements.

If you've been hoping to find a nice 'Magis' Midas Grade at auc-tion, there is no personal inspection if you B.I.D. remotely, and no return privilege - it's yours as the 'winner' and you'll know if you got your money's worth (or not) when you receive it. The last '65 Magis Midas 2-bbl set available to the market sold in Sept. 2017 for $14,950.00. It was a 28" F/IM and 26.5" Sk/Sk vent ribs with a recoil pad. Another Magis Midas 30" F/M and 26.5" M/IC 2-bbl set with a butt plate, sold in 2006 for $12,650.00. So, what I am offering is an extremely unique - very desirable 28"/28" set with field chokes and solid ribs (as documented), with exceptional game scenes and engraving by M.Magis - WITH inspection and return privileges.

Lastly - For those 'watching' this item - I genuinely appreciate your interest. I'm not sure what is being 'watched' other than its eventually disappearance. I'm not likely to drop the price, but I encourage you to make a reasonable (to me) offer while it is still available. In my experience, you can't buy what's not for sale unless you offer the current owner either what they're asking, or more than they can refuse. Complicate that with improbability of locating such a gun that remains in seclusion - and/or its owner. You also may only get one chance at what 'is' for sale, lest it disappear to another collector for the next 30 years of seclusion. So, know what you want, know with 'what' and 'whom' you are dealing, and prepare for the opportunity when something special comes along and strikes a passionate nerve. Guns like this exhibit the individualism of a collection - a reflection of the 'true' collector who values the artistic, aesthetic and historical aspects of exceptional items. Don't 'settle' for less. Thank You for your interest and consideration. Please check my other 'Y'-tang Superposed listings. 'Happy Hunting!'
