Description:
SOLD...REDUCED.....Very fine, rare antique Remington Navy Factory Conversion. Selling this for a friend of mine..Here is a very nice and well above average Remington Navy Conversion. Converted to shoot the .38 Long Colt Center Fire.. All matching S/N and conversion numbers of course.. This is one that was factory converted with the loading gate and ejector assembly. Very few of these were converted to center fire as most were rim fire.. Very few of both were made and the excellent book written by the late Bruce McDowell states as low as 1000 and probably less were made.. The Remington Army conversions are much more common to find by far.... Has the standard 7 3/8” barrel.. This gun retains quite a bit of the original factory blue finish as you can see.. The barrel having the most at about 60% or more.. The cylinder has about 30% or a bit more over all slightly thinning as you can see in the photos. The frame has generous traces in the protected areas as you can see.. The rammer has 50% blue and has the correct cut out for the ejector rod..... The ejector rod head only has bee repaired long ago and has no knurling on it.. Very well done though.. These were fragile and easily broken off during use... Still works perfectly.. The hammer still shows vivid and bright case colors as you can see...Nothing ever cleaned on or messed with... No pitting on the gun..The mechanics are excellent.. This gun is crisp and tight as a new gun PERIOD... Locks up with NO cylinder movement and no wobble side to side.. The very fragile thumb tab on the loading gate has been broken off long ago.. This is another flaw that these guns have... I see a lot of these with this issue because they stick out from the side of the gun and are very easily broken off from being dropped or hit with something It still functions perfectly and you can open it with your thumb nail as the spring loaded button is still in tact.. Closes very tight like new also.. I have one of these guns just like this one with a intact thumb tab.. If I can get the conversion rings off both guns and send them to my gun smith, he might be able to repair this one by copying my good one.. Will be extra $$ of course but what ever it cost me or my friend can pay for it as it is his gun... I will have to discus this with him if someone wants it repaired.....Still has the original cylinder pin that has the right ear removed to clear the ejector assembly.. The front sight looks like a later but time period replacement as it is steel and should be silver or brass I think... .. The dovetail in the barrel is correct so if you could find a correct front sight, it could easily be swapped out.... You can find these correct sights from the many sourses that sell reproduction revolvers.....Typical tilted and weak rolled barrel address as most all of these Remington revolvers will show.. The grips are very nice with a perfect factory fit showing minor corner wear and dings on the bottom from hammering something as you can see.. The screw heads are all clean and sharp and show very little turning... Nothing burred up from tinkering.. The grip screw retains the factory bright fire blue being protected. The bore is excellent, minty bright and shiny.. The cylinder chamber are excellent as well and show no conversion marks from boring out the chambers as a lot of these I have seen over the years have rough bore chambers.... This is a very nice and rare factory conversion with quite a bit of finish for the money.. Most these you will find, if you can find them, are rough and loose, worn out, no finish guns.. Don't let this one get away if you need it to fill a spot in your fine collection of large frame cartridge conversion revolvers.. This is a nice one !!!!
