Description:
#4915 Colt 1885 “Lightning Rifle” RBFMCB 32CLMR (same as the standard 32/20) with a 6-6+ bore on a scale of 10, and smooth tight action, 59XXX range (1891). Pretty uncommon to find one of these in 32caliber with a shootable bore, as they were not guns that were cleaned as well as the larger calibers, and are usually heavily leaded up and pitted. This has the later “Dust Cover” frame (made with the sliding dust cover), correct Colt rear sight and open front. VG light-medium pitted brown metal except for the magazine which is a smooth light grey and no doubt a replacement from another gun. The Rampant Colt logo on the left side of the frame is totally worn off, however the barrel address is strong. The wood is VG but does have some small shallow indentations at the wrist, as if there had been some insets at that spot. Otherwise, just average wear and about 15% wear to the forearm checking. This model of slide action Colt was made as an agreement with Winchester, and was the non-lever replacement for the 1883 lever action Colt-Burgess rifle. Winchester had threatened to start making revolvers if Colt continued making their lever action 1883 Model, so this was the “compromise”. But for any of those who are lucky enough to have shot these Lightning rifles, they sure were aptly named! The speed of cocking and emptying the magazine on the slide actioned rifle is much greater than any lever gun. So if you happen to have a lever gun, do NOT get into a “lead spitting contest” with some fellow who has a Lightning Rifle! They are “wicked quick and lightning fast” and he will beat you like a one-legged man at a butt-kicking contest! About VG-VG+ $1595
