Description:
A very rare convertable cartridge Mexican contract Rolling Block carbine. The Mexican Goverment ordered just 1000 of these carbines on September 7th 1877. These carbines will chamber and fire several different cartridges including the 50-70, 50-45, 50 Remington Navy Short and both the 56-50 and the 56-52 Spencer rimfire rounds. It is equiped with a dual rimfire-centerfire breechblock and firing pin. This carbine retains all the correct features. These guns received very heavy use over a long period of time and the survival rate is very low. This example has all the correct Republic of Mexico markings including company markings on top of barrel.  We have been collecting and dealing in Rolling Block guns since the early 1960s and this is the only example we have encountered.

Condition
Wood and metal show a good honest age patina. The only repair is a reinforcing bolt through the wrist that was done during the period of use.
The action is strong and the bore is rough as expected.
