This is a beautiful little, double-trigger gun built on Webley’s boxlock action and exhibits very little evidence of any past use. The ribbed barrels retain 97-98% of the original blue with just a few hints of silvering at the muzzles and at the sides of the breech, while the frame, which is engraved with simple foliate scrollwork, retains a commensurate amount of the original vibrant color case-hardening (almost all of which remains on the breech faces attesting to the lack of use). Some mild freckling is visible at the chamber mouths and on the ejectors as well. In addition to the standard Webley markings and Birmingham proofs, the gun is marked, “ABERCROMBIE & FITCH Co. AGENTS" on the rib near the breech. The checkered walnut forend and nicely figured rounded, pistol grip buttstock have only some very minor handling marks and surface blemishes scattered about the original oil finish. The non-cast stock has a 14" LOP to a cracked rubber recoil pad (easily replaceable) with drops of 1 3/8" and 2 1/2" respectively. According to A&F records, the gun was sold on November 13, 1959 to a “Jack Ewing". Mr. Ewing traded the gun back to A&F on December 22, 1964, and subsequently sold as a “second hand shotgun" to a Ms. Ethel Sanger, of the “Woodberry School" (we assume the Woodberry Forest School), Virginia, on December 28, 1964. The gun locks up tightly with the lever well right of center. This is a splendid British upland gun, in a fantastic 20 bore chambering, and rates excellent overall.
