Description:
This gun is a consignment owned by its 2d owner of many years TARGET MODEL. The original owner was a serious shooter who kept copious notes on all of his guns. This gun was purchased approx 1938 at Abercrombi and Fitch and was orig. a 7mm mauser. It was sent back to the factory in 1946 and re barreled at Winchester. The Model 54 stamping is an over stamp which likely means that by 1946 they had no more target weight 54 Barrels and used a M 70 barrel although it is stamped model 54. A timney target trigger was installed in 1967 by a then local to us gunsmith (now sadly gone) . The only "hair" on the gun are two holes (welded and filled) on the floor plate and a bolt handle modified to clear a scope.The stock was slightly modified to accept the modified bolt (opening enlarges slighlty) It should not be too difficult to find an unmodified floor plate should one so desire. Most would not notice either the modified bolt or slighlty enlarged opening on stock where bolt locks down on stock.
It is in extraordinary overall condtition, truely. It has been represented to be exceptionally accurate.
It has been really well cared for and clearly has spent most of its life in a safe. The present owner has never used or fired it.
