Description:
Sharp looking Model 70 in the popular .270 caliber and in the scarce and highly desirable transition configuration with its cloverleaf tang and clam shell/rabbit's foot safety. This combination was used only for a few years 1946-1948. S/N is 78*** with matching scribed bolt made in 1948. The barrel is 24" with an excellent bore and all mechanical functions are excellent as well. The overall condition is very good, especially the metal which is extremely clean and absolutely original. The wood has had a light sanding and coat of oil judging by some sharp edges being rounded slightly and a bit too much "grain pop" for a factory finish Model 70. However, it looks fantastic and the checkering remains perfectly clear. In addition, there is a small amount of glass bedding compound in the action area and a spot at the forearm hold down lug. This rifle should make someone a beautiful and weather-resistant hunting rifle produced during an era that is perhaps the most desirable in terms of balancing value, scarcity, and quality during all of Model 70 production.
