Superb Marlin Model 336A-DL Deluxe rifle, 24" round barrel, 2/3 mag having the deluxe checkered Monte Carlo stock with cheek piece and factory sling swivel studs. This version was made for only 3 years from 1960 to 1962, so it is a very hard version to find. Butt stock has correct white spacer between the Marlin butt plate and the wood. Also has the bullseye on the toe line and the capped pistol grip with white spacer. Of course the barrel has the "JM" marking. Top of receiver is plain and has the correct plug screws in the factory drilled-and-tapped scope holes, as does the left side of the receiver for a Lyman, Redfield or Williams peep sight. Correct gold trigger and retains the original front sight hood too. All features are verified as original per the text from Col. Brophy's book, as well as "The 336" by Doug Murray. Serial number is U29420, made in 1961.
CONDITION: All original bluing is there except for a few nicks and scratches - I'd call it 95% to be safe. Beautiful deluxe checkered stocks show a few scratches too, otherwise in excellent condition with no signs of refinishing. Mint bore. Sound action and half cock safety. Barrel has the Micro-Groove rifling correct for this manufacture date. Rifle was test-fired using Hornady LeveRevolution ammo - at 25 yards it shot a little high but the group was great - see picture. If you are a Marlin collector, this one is a must-have (or if you just want a great-looking gun to shoot and hunt with)!! Grades NRA Modern Excellent.
