Description:
Engraved WILHELM COLLATH of GERMANY Side by Side HAMMERLESS Shotgun C&R

Nicely Engraved German 12 Gauge Double Barrel Shotgun

Here we present a Wilhelm Collath Double Barrel Side x Side Hammerless Shotgun, manufactured circa the early 1900s in Frankfurt, Germany.

Wilhelm Collath became owner of his firm in 1870 and was one of the leading makers of rifles, sporting guns, and proprietary cartridges in all of Germany. He became owner of his firm in 1870 at the age of 32. His sons, Paul and Franz, joined the firm and took it over when their father died in 1906. They kept the business going until 1941 when Frankfurt got bombed at the start of World War II. This hammerless double barrel gun would have been used for putting game on the table or having a fun afternoon shooting clay pigeons.

This shotgun features a great Damascene pattern on the barrel and Germanic features such as a generous cheek rest and an elaborate horn pistol grip flowing off the trigger guard. It is also equipped with sling swivels. “W. COLLATH IN FRANKFURT” is clearly read on the barrel rib.

The overall condition is very good. The action is as strong as ever. The bores are extremely bright. Damacus twist barrels are always a nice sight to see and these have matured to a dark, almost purple, smooth patina. The engravings of wild game on the frame make this shotgun stand out. The stock is in great shape! A very nice old German double!
