Description:
REVOLUTIONARY WAR OR FRENCH & INDIAN WAR BRITISH HEART GUARD BRASS HILT SHOTLEY BRIDGE HANGER SWORD, CIRCA 1754. 30" overall with 24" single fullered blade having the original edge with only a few dings or chinks. Quite straight with the 'Shotley Bridge" swordmakers "Running Fox" touchmark on both sides. The "Fox" armorers mark was indicative of the German origin of the makers that came to England in 1685 to begin the sword making trade in that part of England. This sword has a brass heart shaped hilt and knucklebow with one piece solid grip. Make a nice addition to British or Rev War sword collection as many of these descended into families that used them for generations up to and after the War of Independence.
