Description:
WW1 OR WWI FRENCH BERTHIER CONTINSOUZA MODEL 1907/15 OR 1907 /15 7.5x54R CALIBER INFANTRY RIFLE, CIRCA 1916. Serial number "L-3935X" and all matching including stock. 51 1/4" overall with 31" barrel(with extremely nice bore and rifling). Correct in every respect with straight bolt handle(matching number), rear ladder sight, front blade, large ring front sling swivel, stock stamps 'Crown/ R" then in circle "C.S. Septembre/ 1916" with "MA" in middle. Opposite with matching serial 'L-3935X" also crisply struck. Stock has no cracks or anomolies except duffle cut in middle of forend just forward of rear sling ring(still has the original forend wood that was cut to facilitate bringback-hence NO import marks). This duffle cut only applies to wood so barrel never comprimised. This is the earlier model of 1915 so lacks the upper handguard that facilitated the use of bayonet hand to hand fighting. At floorplate forward of ejection port there is a piece of metal held by screw that is not present(does not affect use-see photo). Contin-Souza was a Paris based commercial maker contracted to supplement further numbers besides the main armories in the midst of WW1. Rare to find. With very nice original bayonet and scabbard close in serial number and fits like a glove.
