Description:
This imposing, German-made saber measures 41 1/2 inches overall, with a 35 3/4 inch curved, single-edged blade having wide and narrow fullers. The blade has an overall lightly freckled, pewter gray patina throughout with crisp “C&J" maker’s mark on the ricasso reverse, and some patches of thin pinprick pitting on either side of the forte. The brass hilt has an overall dark ochre patina with a few hints of brighter underlying metal along some of the edges, and the leather grip is in about very good shape with an intact braided wire wrap along its entire length, and some flaked areas as well. The scabbard has a dark, plum-brown patina, with no dents, and some scattered patches of pinprick pitting. This is a nice, high quality, imported Civil War era sword, by a desirable maker, and is in fine-near excellent condition.
