This is a cartridge conversion of an Alfred Jenks-made, “BRIDESBURG" marked musket that has an overall mottled gray patina with numerous areas of even, dark freckling throughout on both the lock and barrel. The walnut stock has a dark brown original oil finish with scattered light handling marks, as well as a stamped “IN" on the left side, opposite the lock. The rifle comes with its original metal ramrod and the lock is fully functional with about 80% of an old, added blue finish on the side-opening breechblock. The stock does not have the “V" cut along the forend present on the rifles used by the Fenian Brotherhood during their unsuccessful Canadian incursion, and this leads us to the conclusion that it is one of the many Needham rifles assembled from captured parts and sold as surplus by Schuyler, Hartley & Graham afterwards.
