These guns were made apparently during the same time as the Ball carbines. This is a very nice sharp gun, but not much finish remains. The barrel has mostly a light gray patina as does the frame. Wood is excellent. There are no military cartouches or inspector’s marks present, but this gun was obviously intended for military use. This is possibly a trials gun or prototype. We cannot find reference to another, but do seem to recall either seeing a Ball rifle or having one in the past. In any case only a very few number (if any other) of these exist. These guns were made by E.G. Lamson and Company. The Ball carbine was one of the more rare breech-loading Civil War carbines with just 1,002 manufactured. These guns were made for the Civil War, but did not make it into service before the war was over! SOLD |
