Description:

John Dickson and Son Round Action Best Hammerless Ejector 12 bore shotgun number 607/4859 from the Lord Puddington Collection.

This gun was originally delivered in September 1896 to Donald Fergusson Esq.  It has recently been fully stripped and serviced by the maker, and is in excellent condition and very tight.  This is a beautiful example of this lovely gun, and is amazing in the field.  It fires and ejects every time, and it is a celebrity in its own right.

The action has been recently cleaned and serviced by the maker and shows very deep engraving, with the rare dandelion pattern on the fences.  There is a gold “SAFE” indicator and gold cocking indicators (see pictures).  The serial number 4859 is engraved on the trigger guard, and all screws (including fore-end release) have been recently blued by the maker.

The barrels are Damascus steel (marked 63 Princes Street), and the pattern can be seen in the photographs.  There is some slight pitting where the fore-end attaches (shown in the pictures), but the maker advises that this is superficial and is not an issue.  The Left barrel is 1/4 choke, and the Right barrel is 1/2 choke.  The rib is 3/8”.  The barrels were originally 30” but are now 29” - both barrels have been reproofed some time in its life (see picture).  Both barrels wall thickness now measures 0.025 average, and bores are: left 0.741, right 0.740.  These measurements come from the maker.

The stock and fore-end have been cleaned, re-checkered, and oiled to a high gloss by the maker.  The stock has a 1/3/8 walnut extension installed by the maker and measurements are now: 15 1/2” / 15 1/4” 15 3/4.”  The stock has a sterling silver oval with a "P" engraved (see picture).

The gun weighs 6 lb 7 oz.

The case was provided by the maker, and has been recently relined with top grade maroon baise.  It includes John Dickson and Son deluxe cleaning rod, gun bottle, and snap caps.

The gun sits in London and can be shipped to the USA by arrangement.
