Description:
Antique Maynard Second Model Military Carbine, .50 caliber, 20" barrel with a blued finish. Color case hardened frame, left side with sling bar and swivel, serpentine lever. Straight grip walnut stock with steel buttplate, left side wrist with two cartouches. Blade front sight and three-position rear sight.
Barrel retains approx. 85% blue finish with general specks of light oxidation, handling wear along the bottom of barrel at about the mid-point accounts for most of the finish loss, moderate pitting is present near the muzzle and around the front sight, rear sight moves freely. Frame is a combination light brown patina, fading case colors, and hazy reddish brown freckling, Edward Maynard and Mass Arms Co. markings are legible. Stock fits very well at the adjoining metal surfaces, cartouches are a little worn but visible; a hairline crack is visible near the toe and is in line with the lower buttplate screw. Lever, hammer, and trigger operate smoothly. Bore is bright and very nice for its age with one small spot of erosion at the muzzle. Overall condition is about fine.
