Elegant EUROPEAN Antique FLINTLOCK Belt Pistol
.56 Cal Sidearm w Carved Stock & Engraved Hardware
Here we present an antique European Flintlock Belt Pistol, made circa 1800. This .56 caliber flintlock pistol was intended for use as a sidearm in the late-18th or early-19th Centuries. The barrel is part-octagonal, part-round. The hardware is of brass with the exception of the iron lock. The brass parts are all engraved. The stock behind the barrel tang is nicely carved with a floral motif.
The overall condition is good. The metal parts are dark with age. The engravings are clear. The stock is fair with a bit of slivering along the right side, forward of the lock, and the crack through the grip, which is very old and somewhat typical of this style. The bore is smooth and in good shape. The action is functional. This pistol seems to have been there and done that, if only it could tell the tale!
