Only 300 or fewer of these musket came out of this contract, making it the second smallest of 13 contractors. This one received a drum conversion to percussion either leading up to or during the American Civil War, which made in more reliable. The flashpan and frizzen were deleted, a percussion drum and nipple added and the hammer replaced the cock. This one is dated 1833, so it would have been in service during the antebellum Indian Wars, the Texas War of Independence, the Mexican-American War, as well as the Civil War. The overall condition is very good. The bore is in very good shape, smooth and dark. The action remains strong. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
