Have you been? This rifle has. Several times. It carries the patina and smells of the African bush. It has been on 4 trips and taken a variety of game. It is THE definition of the African bolt rifle - Mauser action that is smooth like Amarula, carries perfectly balanced as the well made African rifle should, not shiny, not glitzy, has the perfect scope for that buff in the bush. You get the picture.... I hope. This is their redesigned Martini Express Rifle, individually hand crafted around Heym’s proprietary double square bridge magnum action and their 24” Krupp steel barrel – both of which are made in-house by Heym, located in Gleichamberg, Thuringia, Germany. Heym’s high grade rifles are still built by hand, and every part is made and finished in house. No two parts on two Heym rifles are interchangeable: Each is hand-fitted to painstaking tolerances. This world-class action is a modern German double-square-bridge Magnum Mauser 98 action with all the features of Safari styling, popular with Professional Hunters. The action is controlled-round-feeding with classic Mauser straight bolt handle (also Ralf Martini’s design) and uses a Winchester Model 70 three-position safety with one-piece hinged straddle floorplate with center-bow release. Other Safari features include a banded front sight ramp, banded front sling eye, island express rear sight with one folding and one fixed leaves. Key to the re-design in 2011, Heym consulted Ralf Martini of Martini Gunmakers, Cranbrook, BC Canada, to use Martini’s renowned stock design for their (Heym’s) new express rifles. A member of the American Custom Gunmakers Guild, Ralf’s design is the quintessential classic style preferred by Professional Hunters: open grip, ebony forearm tip, tapered (English style) forearm, steel grip cap, superbly designed cheekpiece with bead, and a red natural rubber recoil pad. Additionally, this specimen’s stock is oiled English walnut with good figure showing on both profiles. Stock accessories include rear sling eye, single recoil crossbolt, and steel pistol grip cap. LOP is 14 ¼” over 5/8” solid red Old English recoil pad. The scope is the top-of-the-line Austrian Swarovski Gen II Z6i 1-6x24 EE (extended eye relief) with a CDI reticle. Scope has a 30mm tube diameter . It is mounted with Talley scope rings which mount directly to the square bridges. This system is better because of its positive and quick return to zero after scope removal. The maker has machined recesses into the square bridges to accept the rings’ locking dovetail feet, the practice today of most of the great German gunmakers. New, this will cost $13500 or more set up this way. New if great, but having experience is better. You get this one ready for Africa of almost half of new. Includes Heym Certificate.
