Description:
This is an excellent 52 caliber breach loading Sharps New Model 1863 U.S. Army Rifle with lug for a saber bayonet. It is serial number C,47943 and has a bayonet lug. The metal appears to be over 92% original condition and the mechanical function is excellent and the bore is excellent, crisp, bright and shiny. The front wood has a repaired crack and the butt stock is very nice condition with out an inspector cartouche. Sellers book indicates that only 1000 of the New Model 1863 rifles had the bayonet lug for the saber bayonet.
