This is a desirable and scarce documented Colt Single Action Cavalry Revolver issued to the New York Militia as documented by serial number in John Kopec’s book on page 28. Manufactured in 1874. O.W. Ainsworth's desirable "A" inspector mark is found on the barrel, trigger guard, and back strap. A "P" proof is found on the barrel. It has the one-line Hartford barrel address, two-line patent dates and "U.S." frame markings, and correct bullseye ejector rod head. A period lanyard ring is mounted on the butt. The cylinder is numbered to a different gun ("41757"). Matching serial number ("9547") appears on the frame, trigger guard, back strap, and barrel. 800 Cavalry Model Single Action Army revolvers were refurbished by Colt circa 1895 and issued to the New York Militia. According to the authors of the previously mentioned study, "There are a total of 142 New York Militia revolvers within the block of revolvers we call the Ainsworth Cavalry revolvers." Very good as Colt refurbished. A strong amount of blue finish remains on the barrel under the ejector rod housing, some traces of faded blue remain in the protected areas and traces of silvered out case colors remain on the frame. The grip has been refinished at one time and is a bit undersized but overall good. Mechanically excellent! Shipping will be actual cost. Buyer can choose method and insurance amount.
