CIVIL WAR NORRIS & CLEMENT U.S. MODEL 1863 MASSACHUSETTS CONTRACT RIFLE MUSKET DATED 1864. 40” rifled .58 cal. barrel with original front and rear sights. U.S. Ordnance “V/P/EAGLEHEAD” proof at left breech stamped “1864” at top. Lock plate stamped “EAGLE/U.S.” and “S.N. & W.T.C./FOR/MASSACHUSETTS”. Tail of lock dated “1864”. All original and very good plus overall Metal and stock with original patina. Excellent markings. Faint U.S. Ordnance Inspector’s cartouche stamped on side panel. Working order and very good bore with well defined rifling. Original sling. Quite scarce with only a few thousand made.
