This is a very nice revolver that is retailer marked on the barrel: “E.M. REILLY & Co. 315 OXFORD ST. LONDON". The frame has tight scrollwork engraving, with scallop shell and geometric patterns at the ends of the barrel, and retains 75-80% of the original bright blue finish on the barrel, while the frame has mottled pewter gray with traces of original color case-hardening visible on protected areas. The cylinder has an overall plum-brown patina, and the cylinder pin release has turned bright gray. The hammer and trigger are fairly bright gray with some mild freckling, and the trigger guard has the same mottled patina present on the frame. The checkered walnut grip is in fine shape with a few small handling marks, and trace flattening of the points. The engraved buttplate has a darkly mottled patina as well. The lock-up is tight, and the action functions flawlessly in both single and double action. The revolver is housed in a period, unmarked oaken travel case with five compartment, green baize-lined interior. Also included are a glass oil bottle, steel and brass cleaning rod, and a small brass oil can. This very revolver is described and illustrated on pgs. 114 and 115 of “Tranter Cartridge Firearms" by Black, Guerin & Michaud; 2007. This is a handsome, .450 CF Tranter that would make a fabulous addition to any collection of Tranter handguns.
