Antique COLT Pocket NAVY Model CARTRIDGE Conversion .38 Caliber Revolver
With HARDWOOD CASE & Dual Cavity Ball Mold
Here we present a Colt Pocket Model Cartridge Revolver in .38 Rimfire, made circa 1873-80 in Hartford, Connecticut. There were somewhere around 10,000 of these made. The factory conversion of Colt’s percussion line coincided with the expiration of the S&W owned Rollin White Patent, from which Smith & Wesson benefitted greatly as they dominated the market for cartridge revolvers for over a decade. This one is the same size as the 1849 pocket and was probably partially assembled from Model 1849 parts. This revolver would have made an excellent companion for a civilian or lawman in the late 19th Century!
The action functions: the hammer will cock and revolve the cylinder and the trigger will release the hammer, though the cylinder does not index properly. The bore is in nice shape, fairly bright with sharp rifling. The grips are in great shape and remain solid. Gray patina throughout. The visible serial numbers match. The wedge is a replacement from another gun that is a bit loose. Remnants of the cylinder scene are visible. Here is a scarce Colt revolver that would have been among their first cartridge revolvers!
