Description:
During the late 1920's, the Argentine Commission for Foreign Acquisitions negotiated a contract with Colt for the manufacture of a self loading pistol that was chambered in .45 caliber. The contract specified that Colt would produce 10,000 pistols for the Argentine Army. This contract also specified that the entire knowledge base for manufacturing the pistols would be transferred to Argentine control. This included drawings, manufacturing instructions, tool requirements, material specifications and training of Argentine technicians in the manufacturing process and inspection. This was required so that all future production of the pistols would take place in Argentina. In 1945, Fabrica Militar de Armas Portatiles (FMAP) began production of the Pistola Sistema Colt Modelo Argentino 1927. These pistols were nearly exact copies of the original Colt 1911A1 design. The Sistema Model 1927 pistols were issued to all branches of the Argentine military as well as to different government bureaus and police forces. This example is in very good to excellent condition overall and is property marked to the Argentine Air Force on the right side of the slide, with "Aeronautica Argentina" stamped to the right of the Argentine Air Force crest. It features over 90% of the original gloss bluing remaining and functions perfectly. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and all of the parts are original stamped numbers-matching. The original black checkered grips are in excellent conditon and free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major dings/damage. This would be a perfect addition to a Colt 1911 collection as these are becoming harder and harder to find, particularly with original finish and "Aeronautica Argentina" marked like this beauty.
