These pistols are beautiful and interesting considering their proximity to iconic historical events such as the French & Indian Wars as well as the American War for Independence, however, they are also interesting for another reason. The maker, Isaac Smith (active 1727-56), was listed as a "foreigner" by the London Gunmakers' Co. As such, not only do each of these pistols have the recognizable London proof marks crowns with “V” and “CP” underneath, but they also have a crown “F”, which denotes that these were made by a “foreigner”. This mark was established circa 1741, so that gives us a slightly narrower window of time in which these were made. This is a very rare marking as one might imagine, since the vast majority of London guns were made by native London or at least English makers. Very unique. The bores are a man-stopping .45 caliber. The right frame has “ISSAC = SMITH” engraved, with “LONDON” on the left for both pistols. London proofs underneath. It is amazing that these pistols have stayed together for nearly 300 years now! The overall condition is near fine. The actions are functional. The bores are semi-bright and smooth. The grips are in great shape. It appears that an escutcheon is missing from the bottom of the handle on one of the pistols, lost long ago. The frames and the barrels are finely engraved. A fantastic set from an epic period of American, British, Indian, and French history! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrels are 2 inches. Caliber: .45 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
