The Winchester Model 75 was an American bolt-action .22 caliber sporting rifle produced by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company from 1938 to 1958. Winchester's "companion" weapon of sorts to the Model 69, the Model 75 was in essence a low-cost version of the Model 52.

History
In the 1930s, Winchester had been building the Model 52, a high-quality target rifle that was used by many shooting teams worldwide for a number of decades. Winchester wanted to build a medium-cost target rifle, but the Model 52 was not suitable for this role as it was too expensive and too heavy for the young shooter. As such, Winchester appointed its designers to design a new lighter, less expensive target rifle that could still win matches if used by more experienced shooters.
Taking the action of the Model 69 as a base, a new weapon was developed around the action; this weapon would become the Model 75. The action was later modified to allow for a bit of an advantage compared to other rifles when it came to precision shooting. The Model 75 began production in 1938 and was first advertised in 1939, touting it as being lighter but as accurate as the older Model 52. The weapon was highly successful.
In its first few years, both the Model 52 and 75 were advertised together (although this practice still was common as of the 1950s), although later the Model 75 later got its own separate advertisements from the Model 52.The Model 75 was also catered to beginning shootersand advertised with various tag lines to promote the rifle; later advertisements, particularly the ones after World War II, touted it as a "full man's size target rifle" in an attempt to appeal to returning soldiers.
The weapon sold strongly until it was discontinued in 1958, although parts for the weapon appear to have sold as late as 1962.

Design Details
The Model 75 uses a very similar action to the Model 69, so as such, much carries over. However, a few modifications were made to the Model 75 which made it more suitable for target shooting; some modifications include a stock shaped for optimum comfort when shooting prone, the bolt carefully headspaced to very tight tolerances on each individual rifle, a lead-lapped barrel for smoothness from breech to muzzle and the barrel matched to .22 Long Rifle specifications. The weapon feeds from 5- or 10-round box magazines that feed under the receiver.

Ammunition
The Model 75 was only chambered for .22 Long Rifle only.

Variants
Sporter and Target versions are known to exist.
