Description:

7-1/2 inch barrel chambered in 45 Colt. Serial number 2603. This gun falls in the middle of about 1200 Colt US marked single actions. It is theorized that it was condemned and has no US markings on it. At that time it was nickel plated for the civilian market. It has been examined by several gun pros with their ideas. Joe McBride, Mark McCord and Ron Graham all confirmed the revolver all original. The serial numbers on it are correct. There is no serial number on the cylinder or the barrel. Both are the correct period for this gun. The wood grips definitely appear original with some varnish added. There is about 65% original nickel with the balance having flaked off the front of cylinder and back of the frame.
Comes complete with an interesting table mounted plaque identifying the gun along with providence from individuals stating the gun is correct. Gun was purchased in 1950 in the Austin Texas area from an African American family. They claimed they were descendants of a Seminole African American scout hired by the US Army in 1870 to provide scouting services to the Cavalry. This is a good early numbered gun and comes complete with Rod Cockrum's book Peacemakers Collectors Handbook and Colt Peacemaker Encyclopedia Vol. 2. Also a fair amount of research is included. There is no factory records available. An interesting conversation piece.
