Description:
Sold!  This is a nice example of a Spanish American War era US Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle in 45-70.  This one is in the 449,000 serial range and was made in 1889.  Stock has the correct 1889 Cartouche with inspector initials SWP.  This one has almost all of its original blue finish intact on the lock, barrel, bands, and buttplate, with a nice case colors on the block and tang.  Wood is Very Good showing some nicks and dings from military handling but still retains a crisp cartouche and the circle P on the belly of the stock behind the trigger guard.  The wood has never been cleaned or sanded down and fits up to the metal edges properly.  It has the 32 5/8" barrel mounted with the correct Buffington Rear Sight which came standard for the Model 1884, standard front sight with the US Army blued hood accessory. Complete with sling and stacking swivels.  The trigger has the correct serrations instead of the earlier smooth style which came on the 1884 and 1888 models.  Original ramrod.  Everything on this rifle appears to be correct with the exception of the breech block which is an absolutely incredible Model 1873 Low Arch block with fantastic original case colors.  It should say "Model 1884" but any militaria dealer specializing in Trapdoor Parts would likely gladly take this much more valuable early block in trade for a Model 1884.  If desired, I can get an 1884 block for this rifle but it won't have the case colors this one has.   Bore is Excellent.   Many of these 1884 Trapdoors served in the hands of American Troops during the Spanish American War in Cuba and the Philippines.  Antique, Pre-1898 No FFL required.  50.00 Shipping via USPS Priority Mail.  These 1884's and 1888's were the highest quality rifles ever produced by the Springfield Armory in the nearly 170 years it operated as the primary US Government Arsenal.  This one is proof of their extremely high standards and workmanship. A  Really nice trapdoor for a reasonable price.
