Description:
Fully documented, and historic 1885 Colt single action army revolver in .45cal used and carried on the infamous 4J Ranch located near Lusk, Wyoming. I personally bought this gun from the great grandson of the gentleman who carried this gun while working for the 4J Ranch near Lusk, Wyoming from the late 1880's thru the early 1900's. The 4J was one of the largest and earliest cattle ranch's in Wyoming, started by George Keeline and Sons who migrated from Iowa to Wyoming in the spring of 1877. They arrived in August of 1877 with 10,000 head of cattle settling some 35 miles south of what is present-day Lusk, Wyoming. Later on, according to the documentation the great grandfather (whose last name was Poston), and his brother started their own ranch near Rock Springs, Wyoming, registering their own Circle P brand. Both the 4J and the Circle P brands are documented in the Wyoming brand book included with the sale of the gun, along with other documents shown. Colt SAA serial# 114617 has all matching numbers on frame, trigger guard, and back strap, all of the factory markings are nice and easily read. The mechanics are excellent with all 4 clicks, the bore is very good, as well. The wood grips fit like a glove and still retain some original varnish mainly on the left side, and have several "kill" notches along both sides of the grip at the bottom. (See pics). There is a hole for a grip pin underneath the grips that was filled with crud and looks as it was never installed. The gun is somewhat rare as it has the 2 line barrel address on it's original 5 1/2" length barrel, there are a few known particularly in this serial range. (See "A Study of the Colt Single Action Army Revolver" by Kopec, Graham, and Moore). Comes with it's original, (pictured) cartridge belt and holster. RARE and original, Colt SAA revolver with Wyoming family documented history!! Please ask questions if desired. NO FFL required unless the state you live in requires one for transfer, NY,NJ, etc.. Shipping with insurance included is $40.00 to the lower 48 states.
