Description:
This is a Colt Pocket Model 1849 .31 Caliber with 6" barrel and 6-shot cylinder. It is Factory engraved by the Colt Factory engraver Gustave Young. Comes with a Colt Archieves letter that is very rare to get on a Colt this old! The letter states this gun serial 187187 was part of a 23 gun shipment to W.M.Hartley Company in New York City. It shipped from Colt on Nov. 23rd 1861. Just a few months after the Civil War began. The letter also mentions the Factory fitted one piece ivory grips that are in just outstanding condition! Obviously original to the gun because of the lovely aged yellowish color and glove tight fit. The scroll engraving is the more desireable and earlier style heavy leaf scroll with punch dot background. The gun has dog's heads on both sides of the hammer. More importantly it has a rarely seen Man's Face portrayed on the left barrel breach flat. That face and the dog's heads are of the very whimsical style as done by Gustave Young himself.  The gun has matching numbers on all visible parts. The blue is touched up at least and the there is some pitting in places as shown.  Silver plate finish on the trigger group was likely on the gun when shipped (per Colt Archieves) but it is now re-polished and re-silvered. The hammer cocks and holds but the cylinder does not always advance. The Colt Patent on the left frame is hand engraved as is correct for factory engraved guns. The gun presents itself very nicely held in the hand. The warmth and feel of the ivory grips is just wonderful! Comes with a tattered period correct leather flap holster. Offered for the first time ever, it is just out of a local estate collection. $3995 shipping is $35.  I am a FFL dealer in Connecticut, but this gun does not require any paper work, I can ship it straight to you except in NY, NJ and HI.
