You really don't get the pleasure of handling fine, original western guns all that often. This Winchester Model 1873, cal. 38-40, was born in 1888. It was (and is) a blued receiver gun with a 24" barrel, semi buckhorn rear sight and globe front. It also has a period Lyman tang peep sight. This rifle survived its service in excellent overall condition. The stocks show scars from use, but no abuse. The original finish is almost all there, and has not been screwed up with a coat of varnish, as so many were. There is about a 1-2" crack running off of the rear of both the top and bottom tangs. Both seen tight and stable- easily repaired if you wished. The 38 cal marking on the lifter is deep and clear. The rifle seems to be fully functional. I would venture so far as to suggest that there is 75 to 80 percent of the original blue on the receiver. Maybe even 85. The bore is strong and bright throughout its length, but might be a mite weak in the last several inches before the muzzle. The magazine tube is strong and tight, and I can neither see or feel and dents or damage. The follower appears when the rifle is cocked, and I can feel that the spring is behind it. Everything is at it should be- and better! I've done the best I can to accurately describe this rifle, and hope you will be happy with it. It's a real sweetheart, and a true gem that saw it's share of the late 1800s, and came out still looking good! In order to protect your investment, all long guns over $500 must be shipped in a hard case. Minimum shipping at this level is $55 and includes the hard case. Shipping cost could increase depending on value or weight of the firearm. For long guns less than $500, we still recommend the purchase of a hard case, again to protect your investment. These numbers are for shipping to the lower 48. There is also a 3% surcharge for customers using a credit card on internet sales. Thank you! SOLD |
