Description:
This revolver was originally purchased from Damon Mills, the notable Civil War purveyor of original antique firearms. This original, and pristine for its age, .44 caliber revolver is in the same serial number range of two known Bentley wedge frames in Company H of the 18th Virginia Cavalry during the American Civil War. In July of 1864, 1st Lieutenant Julian Pratt, the commanding officer of Company H inventoried all of the foreign-made pistols carried by the men in his command, also known as "The Pratt Roll." Among those were two Bentley revolvers, serial numbers 3111 and 3221. The serial number of this Bentley is 3193, giving rise to the distinct probability that it came into America in the same shipment from England in the spring or early summer of 1864. It is doubtful that it served in the same unit that was inventoried in Pratt's roll, but service in another Confederate unit remains a high likelihood. It is in very good condition, with an aged patina and flashes of blue in the right light. It is marked on top of the frame, "D. Bentley Patent." The mechanics are excellent with tight lockup. The bore is dark, with rifling still visible, but faint. Buyer to pay actual shipping cost, as well as insurance, if wanted. USPS Money Orders or Cashier's Check only, please. No FFL required, it's at least a 156-year old weapon. Thanks for looking.
