The availability of top quality, graded 20ga. Fox shotguns has dwindled to nearly zero.  Shooter/collectors have recognized the Fox 16ga. and 20ga. guns are the most well-balanced, best handling guns of all the vintage American doubles.  It is also known that they have the simplest, most reliable actions as well.  The total production of A Grade 20ga. Fox guns was just over 2400 guns.  Due to damage, loss, poor restorations, etc. there are less than 1000 genuine, honest, factory correct, high-condition Fox A Grade 20ga. guns left in the world, and the guys that own them are not likely to be selling them soon.  SO, HOW DO YOU KNOW WHICH ONE TO BUY?  Most guns listed for sale on the internet are a gamble to purchase.  Poor photos that show little of the gun, scant descriptions that tell you the bare basics if you are lucky, and not nearly enough information on which to base an informed decision.  Fox shotguns are a serious investment, and it is easy to buy a “LEMON” and not get what you had hoped for.  Vintage Firearms, Inc. allows you to see the entire gun with superior photos and we give thorough descriptions and all pertinent specifications you need to make good decisions when spending your hard-earned cash.  This Fox, sn200551 produced in 1914, is an awesome find.  Just look at the perfect screws, superb wood-to-metal fit, clean factory checkering and you can tell this gun was well cared for and not used to death.  William Gough came out with the “late style” A Grade engraving pattern in 1913 and the early guns were done to much nicer standards than later production guns.  The balance of the gun is in superb original condition, with 65% factory case color, trigger guard with about 30% factory blue turning grey from natural wear, perfect screws, crisp trigger pulls, and the 28” number 3 weight barrels are choked Cyl/LM with mirror bores, 97% factory blue, and tight on the hinge pin and breech face like a new gun.  The wood does not have a crack or chip anywhere and appears to have the original finish as well.  The Hawkins pad is vintage from the early 1920’s and is only a ¾” pad so it does not look bulky like the full thickness Hawkins pads.  It is still supple and pliable.  This is a superb upland bird gun, weighing 6lbs. 2oz. and balanced perfectly on the hinge pin, you can carry her all day over tough terrain and not get “long arm syndrome”.  It is hard enough to find a decent A Grade 20ga. nowadays, let alone one with the nice high condition of this fine Fox.  Don’t let this one escape you.  It will be a long time until another Fox A Grade 20ga. this nice is offered for sale.  It will continue to gain value as you enjoy its use, so it is a grand investment tool for your hard-earned funds.  Thanks for looking!
