Italian flintlock oval bore blunderbuss. The overall length is approximately 34½”. The 20” octagon to round to oval barrel measures approximately 1.58” by 2.5” at the muzzle. The octagon part of the barrel is 6¼”. It terminates in two wedding bands with a ½” decorative band forward of that. The round/oval portion of the barrel is engraved starting with decorative band at the muzzle. This is followed by an approximately 1⅞” x 2½” flower. Following this are ¾” script intertwined initials: “GDM”. Next is a 2” x 1½” flower, and finally a 2¾” x 1⅛” decorative scroll. The breech area has five proof/touch marks. All metal is a smooth even gray/brown. The lock is marked with script “GDM” just forward of the cock with “Turin” in script just forward of that. The lock, cock, and barrel tang have decorative engraving. The iron trigger guard is also nicely decorated. The stock is very good with a handful of storage dents. The raised side plate has two decorative bands. Two sling swivels are present. The action functions correctly. This is a great example of a rarely-seen oval bore Italian Blunderbuss.
