Alvin Wagner Bench Rest Rifle. Scoped percussion bench rest rifle comes complete with false muzzle and bullet starter. The overall length is approx. 45.5”. The 29.25” octagon approx. .36 caliber barrel has an excellent bore. The barrel measures 1.4” across the flats. The rifle weighs 17.5 pounds. The barrel has several screw holes on the top flat under the scope. All metal has a smooth blue-brown finish. The barrel is marked “Alvin Wagner/Jackson. MO”. “Relined” is just forward of this marking. It is not clear whether Wagner is the original maker or the person who relined the barrel, or both. The scope is 34” long and is approx. .65” in diameter. The optics are good with some dirt on the lens and heavy crosshairs. The scope is externally adjustable for windage (by drifting the mount) and elevation (thumbwheel). The buttstock is high grade walnut with no cracks or chips. The false muzzle fits perfectly. Interestingly, the sight block on the false muzzle is an Indian Head penny. The bullet starter is approx. 7.5” long. It fits the bullet starter and barrel perfectly. The action functions correctly. This is a very high-quality percussion bench rest rifle that would be at home in any similar collection.
