The approximately 25" octagon to round (the last 4.25") barrel in 14X33mm rimfire has a fine bright bore with some light pitting toward the muzzle. All metal has a smooth brown patina. The stock is good with the expected issue dents and dings, a small stress crack on the left from the receiver rear to the rear lock screw and a repaired crack from the forward end of the lock to the rear sight. The barrel breech left flat is marked 22.4 over an underline with 18. below. The top flat from the muzzle has an inspection stamp, an Austrian eagle stamp, W and 67 (1867). The breech tang is maker-stamped LW (Leopold Wurzinger, Josefstadterstr 87, Vienna). The lock is marked 860 (1860) in the center. It has an Austrian eagle stamp at the tail. The action functions correctly. The Wanzl conversion is not nearly as common as the later Austrian Werndl conversion. If you collect early breech -loading cartridge conversions, this Wanzl Jäger rifle fits the bill. SOLD Antique: Yes |
