Bill Grover ~ Grover’s Improved Number “FIVE” single action revolver. Manufactured by Texas Longhorn Arms, it wears a 5 ½” barrel and is chambered in .44 Remington Magnum. There is every possible bit of paperwork with the firearm to include the original receipt and all that came with the gun when built.
Bill Grover manufactured single action revolver for the "right-handed" shooter. With the loading gate on the left side of the frame and the ejector rod on the right, when loading or unloading this revolver a right-hand dominate shooter does not have change hands on the firearm to perform these actions efficiently. All steel construction with a high polished blue finish, adjustable rear sight, crisp trigger, positive lockup, and very accurate. This custom made piece is in excellent condition
Introduced in 1988. Designed by gunsmith Bill Grover of Texas Longhorn Arms as an homage and improvement on famed six gun shooter and gunsmith Elmer Keith's #5SAA revolver with a limited production of only 1,200. The revolver was designed by Grover to be loaded, and unloaded from the right hand with the loading gate and ejector rod on the left side. Even the cylinder rotates in a counter clockwise manner as opposed to the more common clockwise motion traditionally found in revolvers. This Texas Longhorn Arms .44 magnum revolver was nicknamed, “Grover’s Improved #5,” after the late great gunmaker Bill Grover. Bill Grover founded Texas Longhorn Arms on the premise that ‘Sam Colt must have been left-handed’ because Colts, and all subsequent single-action sixguns, have the loading gate on the right-hand side of the frame. This means the shooter must switch the gun to the left hand to load and unload. Grover made his sixguns backward, with the loading gate on the left-hand side of the frame. All other aspects of Grover’s guns are also backward. Even the cylinder moves in the opposite direction.
“Grover’s Improved #5” sixguns are based on the famous Elmer Keith #5 sixgun, first featured in the April 1929 issue of the American Rifleman magazine. It introduced a new grip shape, upon which Ruger later based their Bisley grip shape, and an improved cylinder base pin latching system.
Grover called his #5 ‘Improved’ not only because of its right-handed design, but also because it used more modern steels and coil-spring designs, and it was beefed-up to handle the .44 magnum cartridge. The .44 mag didn’t exist when Keith’s .44 Special #5 was made.
Grover went out of business in 2004. In that same year, illness took the life of the talented gunmaker.
During his time, Grover produced around 1,000 revolvers. Many of them are collectible. Quinn is happy to own a few of them.Gun is Used and there is NO round count. There will be NO estimate.
