The 39.25" round .75 caliber smooth bore barrel has a good bore. The barrel is bright and smooth with light staining. It has two Birmingham proof marks. The lock and cock are bright with very light staining. The lock has the crown over GR in the center. The brass furniture, three pipes, trigger guard, side plate, and butt plate are fine. The stock is very good with added finish and the expected light storage dents and dings. The action functions correctly. The volunteers (also called Yeomanry) were town and regional militia forces raised and equipped by a local Lord, Duke, Viscount, etc. This is a nice example of an early (S-type cock) Third Model Brown Bess musket circa 1800-1815. It is well made and tight. SOLD Antique: Yes |
