These are original Civil war issued carbine sockets. They were for strapping on the rear quarter strap. These sockets kept the carbine from bouncing around and for quick use. Both of these sockets straps are intact. The stiching is intact with no separation. The makers stamp is present but unreadable. These sockets were used through the Civil War years and the early Indian Wars. These sockets are great for showing off the carbine. Have One Left. Search for hlvfineguns on google for more details.
