Nicely figured European straight grip stock and splinter forearm. Nice crisp engraving on action body, rebounding hammers and engraved heel and toe plates. Weighs 6lb 11oz and handles great. Purdey no. 7692 was made circa 1870 and has been professionally restored. Mechanically it is also in great shape. Tight on face. *** A photograph of this hamdsome Purdey appeared in an article published in the 1994 Volume V Issue 2 of Double Gun Journal *** The 28” barrels were sleeved sometime after 1984 and were nitro proofed in Birmingham for 2-1/2” shotshells. The barrels have extractors and are topped by a raised, concave gamestyle rib. The rib is inscribed “J. PURDEY . 314 ½ OXFORD STREET . LONDON”. The right barrel is bored 0.729 with a constriction of 0.007 for Skeet choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.032. The left barrel is also bored 0.729 and has a constriction of 0.012 for Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.033. *** The straight grip stock is most likely a recent restock. Wood to metal fit is excellent. Nicely figured. Crisp checkering. Finish is in good condition but there are some minor scrapes and scratches from normal usage. Stock dimensions are 14-5/8” to a checkered butt with engraved heel and toe plates by 1-3/8” by 2-1/8”. Cast off for the righthanded shot. *** This is a professionally restored and desirable Purdey bar-in-wood hammergun. It is in great shape mechanically and cosmetically. Open choked for upland game and clays. You will be proud to uncase this at the range or take it afield. Purdey hammerguns in this condition do not come around very often. *** Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period and will only accept returns at buyer’s expense. SOLD Antique: Yes |
