Description:
Winchester Model 71 Rifle, based on the Model 1886 action, with earlier long tang, serial number 7557, made late 1936, having the standard 24" round barrel with ramp front sight, bolt peep sight, blank in rear dove tail, smooth walnut stocks, original and correct checked steel butt plate, plain pistol grip with no grip cap, blued finish. This one was also special-ordered with the older style screw eyes, sling and fish hook swivels (guess the original buyer didn't want the checkered stocks and super swivels of the "deluxe" model).
CONDITION: Retains 75% bright original blue on all metal surfaces with typical loss on the underside of the receiver from carry wear. Stocks are sound except for a tiny hairline starting to form at the top point of the butt plate. There are no extra holes and they have never been sanded or refinished. Excellent, bright shiny bore. Action functions smoothly, as does the half cock safety. All parts for the bolt peep are intact and also fully functional. Front sight ramp is missing the hood and someone has put a touch of red paint on the bead to make the sight picture better. Grades NRA Modern Excellent. Desirable long tang version of the Model 1886s younger brother.
