Description:
"

Civil War Savage U.S. Model 1861 Percussion Rifle-Musket. The overall length is approximately 56". The 40" round .58 caliber barrel has a very good rifled bore. The barrel is bright with scattered brown staining. The breech is dated 1864. It also has the usual “V/P/ eagle proof" marks. The lock is nicely marked “Savage R.F.A. Co/ Middletown, Con". With an eagle/U.S. at the center and 1863 at the tail. The lock and hammer have a smooth brown patina. The bolster has an eagle stamp, the bottom of which is lightly struck. There is no pitting in the bolster area. The bands, trigger guard, and butt plate are gray/brown with areas of light pitting. The stock is very good with no cracks and one small chips at the top right of the butt plate. The cartouche is strong. The two swivels and ramrod are present. The action functions correctly. This nice example of the savage contract U.S. Model 1861 rifle-musket would look good in any Civil War or musket collective.
