Description:
This is a nice example of a Civil War period Cooper DA .31 caliber revolver. It is very similar in appearance to the Colt M1849 Pocket model. However this revolver works as a double action. The revolver is serial number 5865. This number appears on the cylinder, the cylinder pin, butt strap bottom, and under the barrel. The three line Cooper maker/address/patent markings are clearly stamped on the top barrel flat, minus the word "address". There were no known military contracts for the Cooper Revolver but they are considered secondary martial arms. This gun was made in Philadelphia. The revolver has a uniform gray patina with the brass parts a mustard coloration. There are some areas of the old bluing. The mechanism works in SA and DA. The grips are very good and retain over 1/2 the original varnish with a small section missing on the bottom right side. The bottom of the grips look like it was used to hammer something. The 6" barrel bore displays distinct rifling.  Colt repro parts will probably work with minor fitting. Overall this is a decent example of a secondary martial Civil War revolver for the collector on a budget.
