This bronze like Indian Clock topper is by an unknown maker. This one may be marked under the wood in the base, but I was afraid I would damage it if I took the wood out. I believe it was made between 1850 and 1870.
I have been collecting old west items for over 50 years. Like any antique, condition is the important factor. Most seem to have missing pieces, cracks or have been repainted. This one appears to be all original.
What makes this one unique is that it was done by an eastern United States artist that had never seen an American Indian in the west. Many of the features found on this one show a Mayan look, but I believe intended to be American western. That dates the piece to the opening of the American west and is a real western movement art. I have seen other such art and it always fascinates me.
This measures 8 inches tall and over 8 inches long by 4 inches wide.
