Description:
WW2 SPRINGFIELD U.S. M-1 OR M1 GARAND 7.62 BERETTA TYPE E CONVERSION BM-59 STYLE BOX MAG FED RIFLE W/ 1943 RECEIVER. Semi-auto ofcourse with NO selector. Utilizing a WW2 Springfield U.S. M1 Garand receiver(Sept. 1944) with P. Beretta (1950's) Type E/BM-59 marked parts(Bolt, front sight, HRA/ Beretta co stamped trigger group that accepts a box fed magazine, "SA" op-rod, "PB" sling swivels, "SIAU-1967" barrel, etc. Possible Springfield Armory (Bob Reese) made E type rifle parts with BM-59 Muzzle break. Throwback to the Post WW2 Italian adoption of the M-1 Garand rifles converted to 7.62(.308) for NATO use and known as the Type E Fucile which in turn led to the design of the BM-59 box fed 7.62 rifles so similar to the M14 design. Interesting history of Italy's use of the Garand design is well covered online. This particular US Springfield receiver has crisp address and re-parkerized finish with some pitting on underlying edges and receiver legs where wood would touch. Receiver leg stamped "B 2 9 C" above correct drawing number "D28291-35" and crisp. Exterior of op-rod stamped "7.62mm/2"(Tipo 2) along with "6535382 SA" under wood. Italian barrel with correct "SIAU 1967 M P' stamp. "PB" stamped gas cylinder cap and BM59 style muzzlebreak with 14 holes on right side and 8 holes on left(combat muzzle jump). Rear sight with DRC windage knob. Wood has slot cut typical of Italian Garand styles with Circle/P stamp behind trigger. Not sure what the horizontal inlaid strips of wood are on both sides of stock but they do NOT go all the way through to interior. Other handguards are sound as well and are period. Fun to have a box fed Garand in 7.62 and I'm sure the 10/20/30 round mags can be found for sale. I understand some M1A mags can be retrofitted to work. Undoubtedly rare these days. NO import marks.
