Description:
Here we have a grand old Savage 99, sn 311122, caliber .300 Savage.  This gun was manufactured in 1928 with a 250-3000 caliber rifle.  My Dad purchased the gun in 1938 from John Dewey, a reknowned gun smith in Conn. in the 30's and '40's.  Due to an accuracy problem attributed to the 250-3000 bore he had the barrel rebored to the .300 Savage caliber.  The gun has been used but well maintained and is in remarkabley very good condition for being 98 years old, (80%).  The barrel and action blue has turned to an antique brown patina; there is still a bit of case color still visible on the lever.
The gun weight is 7.5 pounds, has a 22 inch barrel, a cocking indicator, rotary magazine and a number of cartridges indicator on the left side of the action.
The bore is bright and shiney, the wood has some mars and scratches but is in good condition with the checkering still sharp on the grip and forearm.
The gun patterns well with 1.5" moa at 100 yards with open sights.  This gun has harvested white tail deer in New England and elk, mule deer, a black bear and many coyotes in the Southwest.  Always reliable always accurate with the Winchester Silver Tip 150 grain factory ammo.
A great gun for the traditionalist or any hunter looking for a great all around deer rifle.
