Under the forend there is a lever which opens the breech block which rotates to allow loading a bullet and case (we assume) that is a case like a maynard type with a small hole in the case to accept fire when the hammer falls. On the opposite side of the breech block there is a stud that looks like a percussion nipple but is solid steel, not hollow, but would accept a percussion cap. So when returned to battery position the breech block locks up and the hammer falls on a striker which contacts the percussion cap and ignites the powder /bullet. Very unusual pistol and very well made in excellent condition. Barrel length 9” and is 15” overall. Pistol is factory engraved in scrolls and geometric patterns. The barrel has a banded alternating Damascus pattern. Bore is multi-groove and is approximately .34 caliber. Bore is excellent. There is a screw in buttcap that opens to an extra ball compartment. This is one of the most ingenious special system pistols we have ever seen. Any one who knows the marker (No name on the pistol but has a liege proof) Please let us know! SOLD Antique: Yes |
