Description:

WWI “1918” Dated German LUGER P.08 Pistol by DWM

With “1916” Dated Franz Herrmann Holster

Here we present a World War I German Luger P.08 Pistol, made in 1918 by DWM in Berlin, Germany. Basing his design off Hugo Borchardt’s seminal C93, Georg Luger successfully brought Borchardt’s work to practical fruition. While finding buyers for the C93 seemed an exercise in futility, the new Luger Pistol found many countries eager to test it and even adopt it. There are many variations in this field of collecting, but relatively few major changes in overall design from beginning to end. The Luger is certainly one of the most iconic firearms in history, made so by its association with Germany during both World Wars.

This Luger P.08 Pistol is dated “1918”, the year it was made. Imperial German military proof and acceptance marks are located on the right side of the chamber. The DWM monogram is prominent on the top of the toggle. This pistol comes in an original German military flap holster of heavy leather. It is marked “FRANZ HERRMANN/-ERFURT-/1916” on the inside of the flap. The holster is rigged for a shoulder mount.

The overall condition is good. The steel surfaces have light weathering. The blue finish is about 90%. Straw colors are still present. The markings are clear. The serial numbers match with the exception of the magazine. Base of the magazine is chipped. The grips are in great shape. The bore is in good shape with well-defined rifling. The action is excellent. The holster is near fine. Here is a very nice example of a Luger Pistol from the Great War!
