Description:
BISLEY MODEL, .38-40, 4 3/4" BARREL, #300XXX, SHIPPED 1908 WITH INTERESTING FACTORY LETTER. This is a used, but very honest example showing mostly an uncleaned gray/brown appearance with good blue in the cylinder flutes and in the most protected small areas. The screws are excellent and all markings are clear including the correct Bisley Model marking and two line barrel address used only on short barrel revolvers. The grips are excellent and fit well, but are later replacements. The action is tight and the hammer has four distinct clicks. The fine bore is fairly bright with good rifling all the way through and any corrosion is scattered, light and will probably brush out better. The front sight has not been altered. The factory letter on this one confirms caliber, barrel length etc. and shows shipment to Knapp & Spencer Company, Sioux City, Iowa on February 18, 1908. Sioux City is on the Missouri River very close to the juncture of Nebraska and South Dakota. This was big cattle country and no doubt this Bisley saw use by a turn of the last century cowboy! A used, but cared for Bisley with an attractive appearance.
